  2. How to Throw The Best Halloween Party Around With Your Hot Tub

The spookiest time of the year is coming up, which means you’re probably getting ready to dress up and get your scare on. One of the best parts about Halloween parties is that they give us a chance to transform ourselves for a night and become our favorite characters. We’ve got great ways to incorporate your hot tub into your Halloween party this year to make it a unique and chilling experience. Here are some tips to help you throw the best Halloween hot tub party around.

Clean Your Hot Tub For a Horrific Night

Though you may want to scare your guests on Halloween, you don’t want to scare them out of your hot tub. Make sure to clean your hot tub and its water before your party. Test the water’s chemical balance and clean your filters. This will ensure that your water will stay as clean and bacteria-free as possible when your guests are in it.

If it’s been more than four months since you’ve filled your hot tub with fresh water or you notice your water is dirty, you should drain the water before your Halloween party. Then, after the tub is drained, thoroughly clean the shell’s surface and jets. After that, fill the tub back up with water. Add in the appropriate chemicals and sanitizers, and quickly run the hot tub to move the water around with jets.

    Spooky Invitations

As with any party, you can invite a large or small group of people depending on your preference. Whether you invite people online, with a letter or with a phone call, try to make it as spooky as possible. Call your house “The Lair,” inform your guests that you think your house may be haunted and tell them you’ll be offering freshly-brewed drinks from the cauldron.

When making invitations for your hot tub party, think about the amount of people the hot tub can hold. If you want a small, intimate party, make sure to limit the number of people to that which can comfortably fit in your hot tub, or invite a handful more so that the people outside of the hot tub don’t feel like they are left out. If you’re hosting a bigger party, you won’t have to worry about this as much because there will be enough people both outside and inside of the spa.

In the invitation, tell people you have a hot tub so that they bring a swimsuit and wear costumes that they can easily change out of. For even more fun, test the creativity of your guests by challenging them to make their swimsuit a part of their costume.

    Frightening Decorations

Halloween parties are all about the decorations. To make your party a true success, you need to spend a lot of time making your party space feel haunted and spooky. We’ll start with the hot tub. We recommend transforming your spa into an “Acid Tub” for the evening. If you have a ThermoSpas hot tub with LED lighting, set your lights to green. Add submersible green LED lights to your water for an even more striking effect. Then, hang up a “Danger Acid” sign near your hot tub to create the perfect illusion.  Your guests will love it.

If an Acid Pool doesn’t excite you, how about a large witch’s cauldron where your guests become the missing ingredients? Change your LED lighting to purple and create a sign with cardboard that reads “Boiling Witch’s Cauldron: Humans Needed.” Place some witch hats, brooms and other witch props around the hot tub to reinforce the illusion. Then, watch your spa transform into a cauldron as you take off your hot tub cover and see purple-lit steam float into the sky.

Or, if you really want to spook your guests, turn your hot tub into a “Dead Man’s Pool” for the night. Switch your LED lighting to red and add submersible red LED lights to your water for a more blood-red appearance. Place plastic skeletons, bones, body parts and skulls on the area around your hot tub. Then, hang up a cardboard sign that reads, “Dead Man’s Pool: Enter If You Dare.”

If your hot tub is outside, set up a fog machine somewhere in your backyard to create a truly eerie environment. Stick fake tombstones in your grass, lay skeletons on the floor and put rubber snakes, insects and rats in your bushes.  You can also cut out bat shapes from black construction paper and hang them in trees, drape fake cobwebs over your bushes and stick motion sensor props near where people are likely to be. This will be sure to give your guests a scare.

    Hauntingly Fun Games

Games are a great way to break the ice and set the mood of your party. Here are some great Halloween games you can play to get the party started and keep it going.

    1. Costume Contest

When everyone has arrived, kick off the night with a costume contest. Have everyone write down their favorite costume on an index card and give it to you. Make sure to check the cards to make sure no one votes for themselves. The top five winners get first dibs on going in the hot tub. You can also offer them a prize, like a Halloween basket filled with sweet snacks and candy. After the contest, invite guests into the hot tub.

    2. Scary Stories in the Hot Tub

Once people have settled into the hot tub, invite them to share their scariest stories. Make sure you have a couple of freaky stories prepared so that you can kick it off. For a truly haunting experience, buy a submersible flashlight to pass around.

    3. Guess Who

Have guests pull index cards from a hat. Each of these cards should feature the name of a famous character from a horror movie. Without the guest seeing their card, have them tape it to their forehead so that the other guests can see it. Then, they should ask other guests yes or no questions about the character taped to their forehead to try to figure out who it is.

    Bone-Chilling Tunes

A party isn’t a party without music, and great Halloween tunes can really help to set the mood. We recommend playing a mix of Halloween classics (like Thriller and Monster Mash) with iconic horror movie hits (like the Jaws and Psycho theme songs) during the beginning of the party. Once people have had a few drinks in them and they are ready to really party later in the night, stop playing the movie songs and just play the classic Halloween hits with normal party songs. For the best musical experience possible, play music in your hot tub with a ThermoSpas deluxe sound system.

    Sickeningly Good Food & Drinks

We recommend you have your party after dinner, so that it’s dark outside. For snacks, set out chips (labeled “Bone Shards”), salsa (labeled “Blended Man”) and guacamole (labeled “Blended Frog). You can also bake some “Eyeball” peanut butter balls and skeleton cookies for desserts. Wicked Ways Productions has some great Halloween recipes available.

For drinks, we recommend serving blood-red fruit punch or black as death cola. Don’t forget to have your guests drink water, especially if they are drinking sugary drinks and using the hot tub. It’s important that they stay hydrated while soaking in warm water.

It’s best to avoid eating in your hot tub. This way, you don’t damage your filters. Keep finger foods available on a table nearby for quick bites outside of the spa. Also, make sure to only use plastic cups in the hot tub for drinks. Remember, both hot water and alcohol cause dehydration, so if your guests are drinking alcohol, make sure they limit their time in the hot tub and drink responsibly.

More Halloween Hot Tub Party Preparations

Some guests may forget to bring towels, swimsuits or even a costume. It’s good to have a plethora of extra towels available near the hot tub, and a swimsuit or two incase someone doesn’t bring one. Offer a variety of old Halloween costumes to guest who forget theirs so that everyone gets to enjoy the Halloween fun.

We hope these tips help you to throw the best Halloween party you’ve ever had. When another holiday comes along, make sure to keep an eye on our blog. We’ll be sure to keep posting more hot tub holiday party ideas.

  3. Family Hot Tub Games

Spending time with your family in the hot tub can be fun for all, especially when you combine your hot tub with family game night: simple games that children and adults of all ages can play. There are plenty of delightfully fun games to play, or you can easily think of some of your own. Here are our recommendations for great games to play with your family in the hot tub.

    Waterproof Cards

To start the night off, invest in a deck of waterproof cards. This is a simple way for everyone to relax in the warm bubbles of the hot and enjoy the rushing jets while spending time with others. Waterproof cards are perfect for simple games of poker, or employ a small floating tray that can hold cards for games like gin rummy or Texas Hold’em.

There are also waterproof UNO cards as well for families with younger children. Just as you would with your playing cards, use a floating tray that can collect the UNO cards. Just make sure no one tips it over.

    Battle Ducks

You’ll need two floating rubber ducks for this game. The object is to make your duck touch one of the opposing team’s players before their duck touches one of yours. Start by splitting the hot tub up into two even teams. Then give each team a duck. When the game starts, each team should place their duck in the water. With only the use of jets and air, try to get your duck to cross the water and touch one of the other players. This game is a lot harder than it sounds. Of course, the more you understand the power and aiming ability of your jets, the easier it becomes.

    Submarine

As mentioned in adult hot tub games, and taken from Pierre Audet’s Hot Tub Games, this is an exciting game for children and adults. You’ll need at least two plastic cups for this game.

Start by placing one of the cups in the water. Fill it with enough water so the bottom of the cup is emerged in water and the top is facing upward. Pass the other cup around the hot tub, each taking turns adding a small gulp of water to the cup. The object is to not let the cup sink when adding the water into it. Whoever sinks the cup, loses, and the game continues until there is one player left.

    Outbreak

You’ll need at least five ping pong balls for this game. The object of the game is to be the last in the hot tub without a ping pong ball touching you.

Start the game with everyone in their seats, then toss one ping pong ball into the water. You must avoid the ping pong ball and not let it touch you. You can move around, but your feet must stay emerged in the water. As the minutes pass, add more ping pong balls to the mix. If a ball does touch you, you must sit outside the tub until their is a winner.

Four fun games for your family to try next time you’re in the hot tub. We love to play these games with our children and friends. And they’re great games to play if you’re throwing your children a hot tub party. Just remember to stay safe and keep an eye on your kids if they’re playing alone.

Planning a family spa night is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with your family. Your hot tub is a great place to gather your family for fun and relaxation any time of the year.

This week, why not do something different for family spa night by planning an evening with the kids to go out and look at the stars.

It can be as simple as taking the time out to pay attention to the mysterious and magical wonders of the universe that are happening right above you, and it can be done together as a family from the warmth and comfort of your hot tub.

From space inspired foods to stellar music and educational games, this guide provides the ideas and inspiration you need to plan a memorable family field trip… to your backyard!

Gather everyone together for a family spa night

Sunset is a good time to get everyone outside and into the hot tub. As the sun is setting and the temperature drops, you’ll all be together, warm and relaxed in your spa.

While you are waiting for the sky to darken, keep the kids entertained with space inspired music and yummy finger foods that will put the moon and stars on everyone’s mind. Light finger foods like the ones listed below are easy to prepare and can be nibbled on before or in between hot tub soaks:

Games to play in the hot tub

When you gather your family together in your hot tub, away from the noise and distractions of technology, you can get back to the basics like good old conversation and old-fashioned fun.

Many ThermoSpas owners have expressed how much they cherish the fun times spent in the hot tub with their family. Check out this recent comment from ThermoSpas owner Michele Anderson:

“We absolutely love our hot tub and are overall very pleased with our purchase. It has become an entertainment center for the kids. They have their friends over and enjoy swimming and playing games in our hot tub. We are very pleased with the Platinum model”  Michelle Anderson

Why not start the evening off by playing a star game that the whole family will get a kick out of? You can teach your kids that getting outside with family in the hot tub can be just as entertaining as playing video games and watching TV.

Here is how you play the Roman Army Test: While you are in your hot tub, look up at the sky around 9pm, and you should be able to see a constellation called The Plough. It’s made up of three stars. The middle star is the one you need to focus on, and it’s called Mizar.

    the plough

If you keep observing Mizar for several more seconds, you should be able to see a second star appear next to it. This star is called Alcor, and in the Roman times, if you could see this star, you passed the test and were able to become an archer for the Roman Army!

Games like these are ideal for kids of any age, and easy to do any night right from the hot tub. When you are gathered in conversation, you can also use the time as an opportunity to teach the kids a little something about the universe.

    Science Fact or Science Fiction?

Now that everyone is relaxed in the spa and you’ve sparked everyone’s interest, entertain and educate them with this easy FACT or FICTION trivia game:

    Moon Mystery

The moon is a great introduction to stargazing, especially for younger children. Since the moon changes about every 7 days, it’s a great activity to do during a weekly family spa night, and the kids will look forward to it every week.

As the moon rises, you can track its progression. About every 7 days, the moon will enter a new phase. You can observe the changes in the moon while at the same time teaching your kids about the solar system.

The first day that you observe the moon from your hot tub, select a house or a tree as a gauge of where the moon is located. Every time you get into your hot tub and look up at the sky. What phase is the moon in now? How does it look different? Make observations about the changes in shape, illumination, and location.

    Classic Constellations

Since the ancient cave days, the moon and stars has both mystified and intrigued human beings. Legends and stories have been created in an attempt to explain the large pictures created in the night’s sky.

Observing the sky and identifying constellations still to this day provides an interesting and educational activity for people of all ages.

Getting outside and relaxing in your hot tub provides the perfect opportunity to take some time out to look up at the sky and share some of these mythical stories with your children.

With over 88 identified constellations, meteor showers, shooting stars, and planets; stargazing is a hobby that provides endless hours of free entertainment.
