4 CT Boys with Hunter Syndrome Have Their Wish Granted

Meriden CT - brothers Jose (22), Steven (14), Yancarlos (13), and Sebastian (5) all suffer from Hunter Syndrome, a disease causing constant pain. Now, some of that pain should be alleviated...

Jose, Steven, Yancarlos and Sebastian's parents believed a hot tub could be the answer to their prayers, but knew they could not afford one. Now - thanks to ThermoSpas of Wallingford, Fiderio & Sons and the generosity of friends at the boys' schools (Benjamin Franklin School, Nathan Hale School and Washington Middle School) - their sons will be able to enjoy the benefits of warm water therapy every day right in their own backyard.

The brothers suffer from Hunter Syndrome, a progressive degenerative disorder that produces stiffening of the joints, obstructed airways, growth retardation and mental deterioration. There is no known cure and one of the only treatments is hydrotherapy.

Seidy A. Rodriguez, RPT, contacted ThermoSpas in hopes of getting the boys' wish granted, "A ThermoSpa would be of great benefit... (it) will help increase blood flow. This allows the body to get rid of toxins that may cause joint pain. The water temperature helps relax the muscles. The buoyancy of the water will help relieve the pressure of his weight easing the joint stiffness and therefore, improving mobility."

When ThermoSpas heard about the brothers, the company instantly decided that the family would be a recipient of a donated hot tub through their Seasons of Giving charitable program. Unfortunately, the family needed a deck built and the electrical upgraded to allow the spa to be installed in the family yard. Through the generosity of local contractor John Fiderio of Fiderio & Sons and friends at the boys' schools, the pieces came together and now the brothers have a backyard haven for therapy and relaxation and the parents have a place to go to unwind.
