ThermoSpas' Seasons of Giving Program

Each Recipient Will Receive

ThermoSpas’ Seasons of Giving program aims to help children in need all year-round. By donating specially designed therapeutic hot tubs to kids with chronic or critical illnesses, Seasons of Giving hopes to lessen the pain and enhance the treatment of as many children as possible.

Initially, the program provided hot tub therapy to one child a season or four per year, hence the name. Beginning in 2008, Seasons of Giving will contribute 12 hot tubs—one a month—to children who require warm water for therapy, pain management, freedom of movement and fun.

To ThermoSpas, every season--now every month--is a chance to put an earsplitting grin on the face of a child who, otherwise, would not have much reason to smile.

Chase

Chase suffers from Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder that has caused his to regress and lose abilities--such as the use of his hands--over time. There is no cure.

Mia

Mia suffers from Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder that has caused her to regress and lose abilities--such as the use of her hands--over time. There is no cure.

Michele

Michele suffers from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD): the most painful condition on the McGills Pain Index. There is no cure.

Mathew

10-year-old Matthew suffers from Cerebral Palsy, which causes his muscles to tighten painfully. He is confined to a wheelchair.

Cody

16-year-old Cody has Beckwith-Wiedemann Sydrome, an extremely rare (1 in 14,000) birth disorder and kidney disease. When Cody first tried a hot tub, he was hooked immediately. The water soothed his stiff muscles and joints and allowed him to move about with less pain. Unfortunately, he cannot stay at a hotel forever and a therapeutic hot tub is not covered by his insurance. But today, thanks to ThermoSpas, Cody will be able to experience the benefits of warm water therapy every day right in his own backyard.

Aubrei

6-year-old Aubrei has Cerebral Palsy, which causes her muscles to tighten painfully. When Aubrei first tried a hot tub, she was hooked immediately because it lessened the stiffness in her legs. While her doctor has prescribed aqua therapy, unfortunately spa treatment is no longer covered by her insurance and a therapeutic hot tub is not in her family's budget. But now, thanks to ThermoSpas, Aubrei is able to experience the benefits of warm water therapy every day right in her own backyard.

Erin

Erin suffers from San Filippo Syndrome, an MPS disorder that produces many physical and neurological problems (the most painful is muscle and joint stiffness). It is a progressively worsening disease that is ultimately terminal. According to her mother, “Erin has no short term memory, but does have some recall of when she was functioning at a normal level for a 7 year old.”

James and Brandon

James and Brandon suffer from Duchennes MD, a painful and progressively worsening disease that eventually leads to the loss of the use of all the muscles in the body. When James and Brandon first tried a hot tub, they were hooked immediately. Nicole S.

14-year-old Nicole has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a genetic defect of the collagen which causes each and every joint in her body to dislocate. One of the best treatments for EDS is warm water therapy. While her family desperately wanted spa treatment for Nicole, they simply could not afford it. But today, Nicole will be able to experience the benefits of warm water therapy every day right in her own backyard.

Riley

12-year-old Riley has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a genetic disorder in which bones break easily - often from little or no apparent cause. Despite his extremely debilitating disorder, Riley is a very talented violist and has been playing since the tender age of 3.

Sidney

Sidney, a five-year-old from Dalzell, IL, was born with severe birth defects. After too many surgeries and a stroke suffered at age two, Sidney had trouble walking and moving around. Now, thanks to daily warm water therapy in his Healing Spa, Sidney has started to walk on his own.

Kaitlyn is a fourth grader from Willis, VA who suffers from MPS VI. MPS VI is a syndrome that causes intense nerve pain, headaches and progressive restriction of joint movement. The hot tub has helped Kaitlyn with everyday tasks like bending, stretching and feeling overall more relaxed.

Nick is a three-year-old from Cantonsville, MD who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Nick has constantly struggled with stiff muscles and he’s only found relief when soaking in warm water. ThermoSpas has donated a Healing Spa to Nick’s family so that he can get a reprieve from his constant pain.

Miranda

Miranda is a 14-year-old girl from Hebron, KY who suffered a traumatic brain injury when she was only two-years-old. As a result, she now has a severe seizure disorder. Miranda has undergone over 20 surgeries to correct the spasms that causes her muscles to painfully contract. Now that Miranda has her ThermoSpa hot tub, she has mobility never imagined before and her aching muscles are soothed by the warm water.

Jose, Steven, Yancarlos, and Sebastian--brothers from Meriden, CT--all suffer from Hunter Syndrome and live in almost constant pain. The boys’ parents believed a hot tub could be an answer to their prayers, but knew they could not afford one. Thanks to ThermoSpas, Fiderio & Sons and the generosity of friends at their schools (Benjamin Franklin School, Nathan Hale School, and Washington Middle School), the boys can now enjoy warm water therapy everyday.

Shannon, a 10-year-old from Metheuen, MA, was born with spastic Cerebral Palsy. Before Shannon received her hot tub, her favorite time of day was bath time because the hot water allowed her tense muscles to relax. Now that ThermoSpas has donated a Healing Spa to Shannon, she enjoys this same sensation everyday in her own backyard.

Hunter and Dusty, brothers from Tennessee, both suffer from Muscular Dystrophy. The boys are both confined to wheelchairs and live in constant pain. ThermoSpas donated a Concord hot tub to provide warm water therapy and allow them to move more freely on their own. The brothers now use the spa 2-3 times a week for pain relief and fun.

Katie is a sophomore from Marion, MA with Fibromyalgia. She has suffered from constant joint and muscle pain since a mysterious illness hospitalized her in 6th grade. Because of her constant pain, Katie is barely able to attend school. Now, thanks to her Healing Spa, Katie has been able to attend classes and be a ‘regular teenager’ again.

Therma Spa Seasons of Giving - Eric B.

Eric is an eight-year-old from Grafton, MA who struggles daily with Cerebral Palsy. As the first recipient of a hot tub through the Seasons of Giving program, Eric is a testament to its health benefits. Evening visits to his hot tub have eliminated his need for pain medication to sleep. Eric calls his ThermoSpa, appropriately enough, a “Cinderella Pool.” The name --a reflection of his favorite movie -- highlights the similarity between Eric and the fairy tale character that through the kind granting of a wish, is able to see her dreams come true.

David and Chip, brothers from Grand Rapids, MI, have Hunter Syndrome (an MPS disorder that causes physical and neurological problems). David and Chip have suffered from many of the debilitating effects of Hunter Syndrome including muscle and joint stiffness. Rose Pelton, their pediatric occupational therapist, wrote a letter to ThermoSpas nominating them for a hot tub donation to help with their therapy and pain. In February, the boys received their Concord hot tub.

Keegan, a four-year-old from Belleair, FL, was born with Periventricular Heterotopia (a rare neural migrational disorder usually lethal to males in utero). Once Keegan began water therapy classes, he relaxed in a way his mother has never seen before. Unfortunately the class was too far away for the family to attend regularly. ThermoSpas donated a hot tub to provide water therapy and relief in Keegan’s backyard. ThermoSpas’ donation also added a secondary benefit. Keegan now has an activity he can share with his siblings.

Jonathan, a fifteen-year-old boy from Timberlake, NC, suffers with almost constant pain from Cerebral Palsy. Jonathan first experienced the pleasures of a hot tub when he sat in his grandfather’s spa. Almost immediately Jonathan felt his muscles relax and his stiffness reduce dramatically. Now, thanks to ThermoSpas and Duke Children’s Hospital, Jonathan has a hot tub of his own right in his backyard.

James was shot in the line of duty and now suffers permanent injuries. Thanks to the Connecticut State Police Union, ThermoSpas and other generous Connecticut companies and individuals, today TFC James R is able to enjoy warm water therapy in his own backyard. Now James is able to get relief from the constant pain he endures as a result of his heroic efforts.

Naomi, an eleven-year-old from East Peoria, IL, suffers from Cerebral Palsy as a result of a traumatic brain injury. With the help of daily warm water therapy from her ThermoSpas Healing Spa, Naomi is now a junior high school cheerleader. The hot tub gift has helped her physically, emotionally and socially.

Sean is a nine-year-old from New Milford, CT who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy. Sean was nominated for a hot tub by a sympathetic school van driver who hated to see his deteriorating condition. While Sean is now confined to a wheelchair, thanks to ThermoSpas, today Sean enjoys incredible freedom of movement while in his own backyard ThermoSpas hot tub.

Nicole, a twelve-year-old with Cerebral Palsy and seizure disorder, is often called the friendliest girl in town by Williston Park, NY residents. ThermoSpas has provided Nicole with the ability to enjoy warm water therapy and ease of movement in her own backyard. Nicole’s mother believes that it was partially the relief the ThermoSpa provided that allowed her daughter to start walking.
