Little Boy with Rare Disorder Has His Wish Granted

Keegan, a four-year-old little boy born with Periventricular Heterotopia (a rare neural migrational disorder usually lethal to males in utero) is having his wish granted by Dustin Diamond ("Screech" of Saved By The Bell) and ThermoSpas.

Seasons of Giving recipient Keegan with his family.

When Keegan took a water therapy class, he was relaxed immediately. The four-year-old is confined to a wheelchair or his swing and has never felt such soothing calm or freedom of movement before. Unfortunately, the class was quite a distance from his home and only once a week. Today, thanks to ThermoSpas and the Dustin Diamond Foundation, Keegan will be able to experience the benefits of warm water therapy for as long as he likes right in his own backyard.

A miracle himself, Keegan has survived despite his rare disorder, but has multiple medical and developmental problems: severe Cerebral Palsy causing him to be in almost constant motion with involuntary movements, visual impairments and digestives issues that necessitate the use of a gastric feeding tube.

According to Keegan’s mother, “Water therapy is a miracle for Keegan. While in the water, he relaxes, his movements stop and he falls asleep. After he has been in the water he does not need his medicine because the water has calmed him.”

Besides the physical benefits, the ThermoSpa will allow Keegan - who cannot run with his siblings Connor (10), Claire (7) and Cameron (3) - to really play and spend time with them. According to his mother, “The ThermoSpa will be the one activity we can all do as a family together.”

Not only does a hot tub provide Keegan with a chance to move and play more freely on his own, but it also offers proven therapy:

    • Muscle relaxation, which can reduce muscle spasms
    • Decreased gravity, which increases breath control
    • Improved trunk control, balance and coordination
    • Increased mobility and range of motion
    • Increased strength and endurance

ThermoSpas has donated the Park Avenue model with over 100 therapeutic jets to Keegan through their Seasons of Giving hot tub donation program. Special thanks to Jennifer Misner and Dustin Diamond, and to Low Cost Concrete and Small Jobs Electric for donating their time and supplies to help make Keegan’s dream come true.

Embodying the company's philosophy of "We Turn Water Into Therapy," ThermoSpas "Seasons of Giving" program makes hot tub donations to children with serious illnesses who will benefit from warm water therapy.
